What are porcelain veneers?

If you are embarrassed to smile because of unattractive dental flaws, Dr. Russell West, our talented dentist, may suggest porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are thin, semi-translucent shells that are bonded to the front of teeth to create a more brilliant smile. We may use porcelain veneers to improve:

  • Fractured teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Minor bite-related problems
  • Stained or yellowed teeth
  • Broken teeth

We will be able to determine whether porcelain veneers are right for your smile after a thorough cosmetic consultation at our dental office.

How do porcelain veneers work?

In Valencia, California, porcelain veneers generally take two visits to our dental office to complete. Your porcelain veneers first need to be made at a dental laboratory, based on molds and measurements we take. We will also pick a shade of porcelain to either match the natural color of just one tooth or lighten your entire smile by multiple shades. To prepare your tooth to accommodate the thickness of the veneer, we will remove a small layer of tooth enamel and gently etch the surface of your tooth to promote a stronger bond. After Dr. Russell West temporarily places the veneer on your tooth to ensure it fits properly, he will permanently cement it into place. If you take good care of porcelain veneers, they can last for up to 10 years. For more information about the many benefits of porcelain veneers, please contact our dental office today.
